Network Installation & IT Closet Setup at a glance

What it is
Network installation is the IT-closet side of a network: the rack or wall cabinet, patch panels, PoE switches, firewall and ISP hand-off, UPS battery backup, and cable management, all labeled and documented.
Who it’s for
Offices moving into a new suite, businesses with a messy closet that needs a rebuild, MSPs that need an on-site install partner, clinics, and warehouses adding an IDF.
What affects cost
Closet build-outs typically start from $1,500 plus hardware. Rack size, the number of drops landing in the closet, switch and PoE needs, and whether you supply the hardware or we quote it set the price.
Quote and timeline
Site walk first, then a written fixed-price quote within 24 hours. Cutovers are scheduled after hours, and ISP install dates are coordinated for new spaces.

Cabling gets a network to the wall. Network installation is everything that happens at the other end: the rack or wall cabinet, the patch panels, the switches and firewall, battery backup, and the cable management that decides whether the next technician can find a port in thirty seconds or thirty minutes. We build that closet as one job, so the drops, the hardware, and the labels all agree with each other.

A typical small-business install looks like this. We mount a 2-post rack or a 12U to 24U wall cabinet in the IT closet (or build one out of a storage room, with the facilities team's sign-off on power and cooling). Copper drops land on numbered patch panels, fiber lands in a rack-mount enclosure, and short color-coded patch cords run to PoE switches sized for the cameras, phones, and access points you actually have plus room to grow. We mount the firewall and ISP hand-off, put the core gear on a UPS, and dress every cable with horizontal and vertical managers.

For offices moving into a new space we coordinate the ISP install date, extend the carrier demarc to your closet when it lands somewhere inconvenient, and schedule the cutover after hours. When you have an IT provider or MSP, we do the physical build and hand them a clean, labeled closet with a port map. When you don't, we configure VLANs for staff, guest, voice, and cameras and give you the admin credentials and documentation in writing.

We also clean up existing closets. If yours is a tangle of unlabeled patch cords, consumer routers, and a power strip on the floor, we re-terminate what is worth keeping, replace what isn't, and leave a rack you can photograph for the insurance file.

Network Install questions, answered

Can a business buy its own network hardware for the install?

Yes, either way works. We can quote switches, firewalls, racks, and UPS units as part of the job, or install hardware you or your MSP already purchased. We will flag anything that won't fit the closet or won't deliver enough PoE before install day.

Can a cabling contractor do only the physical install while our IT company configures the network?

Yes. Many network installs are exactly that: we build the rack, terminate and certify the cabling, mount and power the gear, and hand the MSP a labeled port map. They handle configuration remotely or on site.

How big does a small-office IT closet need to be?

For a small office, a 12U wall cabinet in a ventilated closet with a dedicated 20A circuit is often enough. Larger offices and anything with a server, NVR, or phone system usually need a floor rack with front and rear clearance. We look at the space during the site walk and tell you what fits.
